TI-31 Automatic Titrator for Food Quality Control

Food quality control often involves more than checking pH. pH describes the activity of hydrogen ions, while titratable acidity measures the amount of acid neutralized under a defined test procedure. For wine, juice, vinegar and edible oils, selecting the right titration method helps laboratories assess product consistency and process quality.
How does the TI-31 support food testing?
The BIOSTELLAR TI-31 automatic potentiometric titrator adds a measured volume of titrant while an electrode monitors the sample’s potential. The instrument identifies the endpoint using the selected titration mode and calculates the result from the titrant consumption. This reduces the need for an operator to judge a colour change by eye, which can be useful when samples are deeply coloured or naturally opaque.
Food testing applications
| Sample | Typical food test |
|---|---|
| Wine | Determine titratable acidity by acid–base titration. Sulfur dioxide analysis can be considered with a suitable redox method, electrode and reagent system. |
| Fruit juice | Measure titratable acidity to support checks on incoming fruit, blending and finished-product consistency. Sample dilution and endpoint settings should follow the selected method. |
| Vinegar | Determine total acidity, commonly expressed as acetic acid, using an appropriate acid–base titration procedure. |
| Edible oils | Assess acid value using a suitable non-aqueous acid–base method. Peroxide value may be analysed by an appropriate iodometric redox procedure, subject to method and accessory compatibility. |
A flexible titration platform for routine food laboratories
TI-31 supports acid–base, non-aqueous acid–base, redox, precipitation and complexometric titrations. Available modes include DET, MET, SET, blank titration and manual titration. Selectable 10 mL or 20 mL burettes help match the dosing range to the method. The instrument provides a pH range of 0.00–14.00 and an mV range of −2000.0 to +2000.0 mV. It can store up to 500 GLP data sets, export records in CSV or PDF format through a USB drive, and connect to a printer via RS-232.
- DET, MET and SET endpoint modes, plus blank and manual titration
- Acid–base, non-aqueous, redox, precipitation and complexometric methods
- Selectable 10 mL / 20 mL burette configuration
- Storage for up to 500 GLP data sets; USB export in CSV/PDF format
For food laboratories handling different sample types, the TI-31 offers several potentiometric titration modes in one benchtop instrument. BIOSTELLAR can assist with instrument configuration and method-related requirements for your application.
