How to Reduce Water Spots After Washer Disinfector Drying

After a medical washer or washer disinfector completes its washing and drying cycle, users may occasionally notice water spots, white marks, or mineral residues remaining on stainless-steel instruments, dental handpieces, laboratory glassware, or other cleaned items.

In many cases, this does not necessarily indicate insufficient drying. One important factor is the quality of the incoming water.

When tap water contains dissolved minerals and salts, small amounts may remain on instrument surfaces after the water evaporates. For applications requiring cleaner and more consistent results, BIOSTELLAR recommends considering a purified-water supply system according to the local water quality and installation conditions.

Why Do Water Spots Remain After Drying?

Tap water naturally contains dissolved minerals and other substances. During the washing and rinsing process, water comes into direct contact with instruments and glassware.

When the remaining moisture evaporates during hot-air drying, dissolved minerals do not evaporate with the water. They may remain on the surface and become visible as:

  • White water spots or marks
  • Mineral deposits on stainless-steel surfaces
  • Visible spotting on laboratory glassware
  • Residues that become more noticeable after drying

Therefore, simply extending the drying time may not solve mineral-related water spotting. Improving the quality of the incoming water is often a more effective solution.

BIOSTELLAR Washer & Washer Disinfector: Washing and Drying Process

To avoid confusion between washing temperature and drying, BIOSTELLAR offers two different series with clearly defined washing functions.

LMW Series – Medical Washer

The LMW Series is designed for cleaning applications without the dedicated disinfection function.

Washing Temperature: Up to 70°C

The LMW Series performs high-temperature thermal washing at temperatures up to 70°C, depending on the selected washing program and model configuration.

Drying Method: 3D Hot-Air Drying

After washing, the equipment uses 3D hot-air drying to remove residual moisture from the cleaned instruments or glassware.

Therefore:

LMW Series = Cleaning up to 70°C + 3D Hot-Air Drying

LWD Series – Medical Washer Disinfector

The LWD Series combines cleaning with higher-temperature thermal disinfection.

Washing / Disinfection Temperature: Up to 93°C

The LWD Series can reach a maximum operating temperature of 93°C for integrated cleaning and hot-water disinfection. Medical Washer Disinfector
